Route 45! Learns about Prayer!

2011 March 11
by Liz

Our Route 45! students were lucky enough to welcome a special guest visitor into their usual Sunday morning class. Our very own Stephen Bay, Prayer Ministry Pastor, spent the morning teaching our 4th and 5th graders about prayer and their own personal prayer lives. It was a great time both for our students and volunteers. I love what Chung-In (a Route 45! Volunteer) had to say about the experience:

“When we had the prayer session with Stephen Bay, I absolutely loved it.  The kids were really engaged when Stephen was talking about his “treasure hunts”.  It was a great example for them to see how prayer can work in a very practical manner.  I was personally challenged in the beginning part of the session when he was talking about the fundamentals of prayer. It’s great to learn that we can always pray and go to the Father.  A lot of times, people are not used to it or don’t want to do it because it feels very foreign. If our kids can see and learn about prayer at an early age, it will be an amazing thing as the kids grow up and face life!!  It will make them fearless!!” - Chung-In (Noah’s Place Route 45! Volunteer)

I am humbled to be a part of a community that believes in equipping and leading the next generation in prayer! I am thrilled to see what God will do through these young PRAYERFUL leaders that are being raised up and grateful to be along for the ride…

“Ah-Ha”…Our kids get it!

2010 November 29
by Liz

Elise, 6 years old, has had some incredible “Ah-Ha” moments with God recently that she wants to share with you … So cool (and funny too) to see our kids get it!

Elise’s Ah-Ha Moment #1

Elise: “If the Bible teaches us that Abraham is the father of many nations, that means everyone in this world is a family! Does that mean I can kiss everyone?!”

Elise’s Ah-Ha Moment #2

Mom: “Elise, why are you so cute?!”
Elise: “I don’t know… It’s a gift from God!”

This is one of the MANY reasons I love being with kids. They are so honest and real! Are your kids experiencing “Ah-Ha” moments with God? We’d love to hear them…

One Mom’s Beautiful TRU Homefront Story!

2010 September 28
by Liz

As we launch our new TRU Curriculum, our kids and volunteers aren’t the only ones being impacted in some incredible ways! THANKS FOR SHARING SHANNON! We are inspired…

Our church just started this new curriculum for the children’s ministry – TRU. I’ve been excited about it’s premier. One part of the study is called:: Home Front – it is a resource for the parents on how we can more actively engage in what our kids are learning on Sunday morning.

This week I received an email with my very first Home Front in it. I wasn’t quite sure how it would all go. There are 3 parts: Inspire. Equip. Support. I loved the personal story at the beginning – open and real. And at the end {Support} is where they give you idea(s) on how to engage in the upcoming lesson with you’re child.

This Sunday’s main point is “God Created Me to Be in Relationship with Him and Others.” So while the kids were in their bath I read the main scripture verses:: Gen 1:26-31 and I talked about how God made them, and how much He loves them, how much we love them, and how as God was forming them in my “bellie” that he made them with a special purpose.

The Home Front encouraged us to show ultrasound pictures and such. So I got out my oldest’s ultrasound picture and showed it to both him and my little one. Next, I pulled out JC’s little photo album that I haven’t been through in at least a year, which was filled with pictures of his first 3 weeks of life that where spent in the NICU. So many feelings came rushing in. I don’t think I’ve gone through this book with him before, mostly because he is so young. But that was one of the scarriest times for my husband and myself for so many reasons.

In many ways JC should not be here with us today – but he is!!! I know God has something very special planned for his life and this take home gave me a chance to remind him and to remind myself of his beautifully powerful story.

It is way to easy for me in the craziness of the day; boys jumping and wressling which turns into tears and war wounds, or whining and not eating all amongst sleepless nights, to turning my focus away from the things that are most important about my kids. That God CREATED them, He LOVES them and has  beautiful and powerful plan for them. As their parent I am blessed, but also challenged in my role of walking, loving, helping, and supporting them along in their journey of life.

I’m not sure at 3 1/2 years old and 19 months how much of the Home Front and Sunday morning lessons they are able to understand, but I know that it helped to change my heart today. And maybe that’s the best thing I can teach and model for my kids – to be open and vulnerable towards God and let him change my heart and my life!

Shannon, Scott and their beautiful boys!

What has God taught you through your kids?

My Offering :: a story of creativity and sacrifice

2010 September 28

Rachel, 7 years old, understands the importance of giving to those who have needs and she’s already growing a heart for her friends in Malawi. Her parents continuously teach her about the world’s needs and how she can be a part of the solution. Recently, Rachel and her younger brother, Joshua [4 1/2 years old] did a lemonade stand in Huntington Beach with their aunt to raise money for the kids in Malawi.

The Sunday after the kids’ successful lemonade stand, Rachel decided to give ALL the money raised to our friends in Malawi. She gave $42.50!

Here is the letter she wrote along with the dollars and cents she gave to the offering basket…

Rachel challenges me to give generously and creatively consider how resources can be used for the Kingdom! This is just the beginning of what God’s doing with our next generation at Newsong! God must smile…WAY TO GO, RACHEL!
